Cheers Drive!

On Saturday 5th July the Provincial Family Day too place at Highnam Court in Gloucester. Always a good day out, and a great chance for friends across the province to meet up and bring families and friends along.

This year to encourage a few more attendees to make the journey up the M5, our Worshipful Master Andy borrowed a minibus from his Scout group and chauffeured several members and their families door to door.

After enduring an hour of “are we nearly there yet” mostly from the adults the bus arrived at Hignham Court.

First order of business before finding the food and bar was to get Scott’s daughters cake to the tent for the junior bake off competition. Thankfully we got there in time and it was fully tested before being sold off for charity along with the other entries.

Reese’s cake entry from Sofia.

After that the group enjoyed a lovely afternoon of entertainment from the Port of Bristol Sea Shanty group, Punch & Judy and some Morris dancing which the kids got to have a go at too. The classic cars were something to behold with some iconic vehicles, which for the adults brought back memories of films from growing up and to the kids looked really cool.

Towards the end of the afternoon the kids races got underway after which the masters of lodges were asked to take place in a “walking” sack race.

With the pride of the lodge on the line Andy limbered up and joined the start line, despite his best efforts he finished a close 2nd (and will probably need physio now) to the master of Royal Lebanon Matty Brown.

You can see the check the video of the race out on Facebook here – Masters Sack Race.

Sadly the entry in the Junior Bake Off didn’t win but went down very well on the tea & coffee stall as it completely sold out (better luck next year Sofia).

With the event being brought to a close and everyone having had their fill of cream tea’s it was time to pack up and head home.

Keeping the party going the in bus DJ took requests and ensured that Staple Hill left in style and in fine voice.
